Ingredients:
Aratikaayalu/Green plantains/Raw Bananas - 2
Onions (medium) - 2
Green chillies - 3-4
Red chillies - 2-3
Turmeric - pinch
Urad dal - 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tbsp
Curry leaves- 1 leaflet
Salt - as per taste
Oil - 3 tbsp
Procedure:
- Wash, peel and chop plantains in to half inch pieces. Similarly chop onions length wise and set aside.
- In a pan, add oil and heat it.
- When oil is hot, add urad dal, cumin seeds, chopped green chillies, red chillies, curry leaves and stir well.
- Add chopped onions and saute for 1-2 min. Then add plantain pieces, turmeric and fry them under low flame with occasional stirring.
- Continue the same process until the plantain pieces turn soft. Then add salt and mix well.
- Serve hot with plain rice or it can be taken as side dish with dal or rasam.
TIP: Onion and Green chilly paste can be added in place of chopped green chillies and onions. But the paste should be added after adding plantain pieces.
